Oh come to me my muse and set me free….

We’re driving through the rolling hills of northern Virginia, heading home after two chilly weeks on the East coast. I enjoyed my first gingerbread latte of the season and I daresay it was a thoroughly satisfying cup of sugary goodness.

We spent the weekend playing shows in Baltimore and New York. I can now say that I’ve been to the basement of the Empire State building twice. A great feat to be sure.

Someone recently asked if there’s a story behind our song Muse, so I thought I’d take a bit of time to answer his question today. Muse is one of those songs that truly was a joint effort, meaning both Tyler and I contributed equally to the songwriting. Probably 3ish years ago I was having a quiet afternoon in our apartment and decided to take some time to write. I was having a dry spell in songwriting. I couldn’t think of anything to write about, so I decided to write about my lack of inspiration. The original verses were about wanting to write a song but having difficulty finding the words. The chorus was the same and I think the bridge was very similar. Tyler came home and I played it for him. He liked it but said he thought it would make a great love song. A few days later I came home from work and Tyler had written the first verse and part of the second. We finished the song together that night. There you have it. I know, it’s probably not the story you were expecting and it’s definitely lacking in romance. But it’s true.
