For those of you who don’t know, I went to high school in Ocean Springs, MS (just a town over from Biloxi). I’ve been exposed to lots of Southern culture. For example, within the first week of moving to Ocean Springs my family was invited to a shrimp boil for the 4th of July. I’ve never been a seafood fan, but that day I remember clearly knowing that I could never eat shrimp again. The shrimp were laid out on a table with their whiskers and eyes still showing. It completely freaked me out.
Anyway, there are a lot of little things that are specifically Southern that I haven’t encountered in a while. However, at work on Saturday, a co-worker reminded me of one thing that has always made me laugh. She was going to grab a soda and asked me if I wanted anything. I said, “Sure, I’ll have a coke.” To which she replied, “Well what kind of coke do you want? LIke a sunkist, sprite, or just a regular coke?” I laughed to myself and said, “I’ll just have a regular coke.” Here in the South, all fizzy drinks are coke. Great job with your product branding, Coca-Cola.
