Musings and things.

We’ve been in the studio for 2 weeks working hard on this new record. Only 2 more tracking days! I can’t believe how fast this process has been. When we make records ourselves it takes about 3 months to track everything. This probably has something to do with the fact that we don’t actually have a studio. We recorded Faint Not by lugging our gear from living room to living room (or basement or attic) and setting up for a few days (until we over stayed our welcome). It’s been amazing working with a producer in a real studio.

We’re struggling to find a title for this record. The theme of the record is abiding in Christ and finding rest in Him. We didn’t know that it would be when we began writing the songs. We tend to process our feelings and emotions through songwriting. It’s funny, it’s almost as if we write a record and then figure out what we’ve been dealing with for the past year or so. That was definitely the case with Faint Not, and it seems to be with this record too.

It’s been a busy year. We traipsed across the country sharing songs from Faint Not and telling stories. Many of the families we met and the friends we made are beginning to feel like true family. Our music career (if you can call it that) has been all about relationships. 2 1/2 years ago we reached out to our tiny mailing list and asked for help in booking our first tour. Some of you probably thought we were weird. Fortunately, many of you didn’t. We played shows in tiny coffee houses to audiences of 5 people. At one of those shows we met a couple that opened their home to us and fed us. We’ve since played shows with their son and have been invited to and attended their kids’ weddings. We call them our Mississippi family. Another friend emailed us rather last minute and asked us to make a stop at her place for a house show. We’ve since become close friends and she’s connected us with 3 colleges in Mississippi. We’re even talking about visiting her in Africa. And there are so many stories like these. It’s amazing to see the Lord provide.

I’m not sure when we’ll release the record. Probably in the Spring. We’d like to bring it to our shows in February. We shall see.

  1. So excited about this new album! We saw you in Spokane last night. And to say we loved the concert would be a huge understatement. And Jenny you said if I emailed you we could talk about having you maybe come back in Feb. and do a house concert here. Will trade you good food for good music! God bless you both. Entirely.

  2. Hmmm…. howz about “Vine & Branch”… that’s the first image that comes to mind (John 15) when I think about “abide”. But maybe it’s too literal. Just thought I would share a knee jerk thought when I read your post.
